Eagle Athletes! Today was supposed to be our athletic banquet where we recognized our student athletes and honored those who earned awards. Since we are not able to hold an athletic banquet, we hope to honor those who earned it through our social media. We know that our Spring sports were cut short, but we wanted to recognize those who stood out during the short time that we had those sports. Athletes - we will mail your awards to you in the next couple of days. Eagle Nation - Please post your congratulatory comments below! #EaglePride247

Dear Seniors and Parents - Late yesterday afternoon, the Governor provided school districts in rural communities with guidance on how to legally conduct live graduation ceremonies during the current COVID-19 restrictions. As a result, Como-Pickton has chosen to hold a live graduation ceremony at its regularly scheduled time and date of May 22nd at 7:30 pm. The graduation ceremony will be rather strict in nature based on the Governor's guidelines. Each graduating senior will only be allowed to have five guests. Those guests will be screened prior to entering the graduation area, and they will be seated in an area of the stands that allows for the six feet social distancing guidelines between their family and others. Furthermore, guests will not be allowed to congregate on the field after the ceremony. More detailed information will be provided in the next several days, but we wanted to get this much information out to you as soon as possible so that you may begin planning for your guests. Furthermore, we will continue with our video graduation project for our seniors. Seniors, please make sure that you show up on the date and time that Mr. Baird provided you for your filming requirements. We will push that video out to our community the day after our graduation for all of those who were not able to attend our live ceremony. Also, we have an awesome tradition with our seniors to be able to deliver roses during a portion of the graduation. We will not be able to do that this year, but we do not want the tradition to stop so we encourage all of our seniors to do a virtual rose ceremony on Facebook or Instagram that day prior graduation beginning. Please tag the person you are dedicating your rose to and also add the hashtag - #EaglePride247Rose so that everyone may follow your dedication. Again, we will provide more information in the following days, but we wanted to get this bit of good news out to you as soon as possible. Take care Seniors. It will be good to see you all again! We miss you!

Attention Como-Pickton Graduating Seniors! Our goal is to still hold a live graduation ceremony for you on May 22nd at 7:30 pm. There is a very good probability that we will not be able to do this, though. Because of this probability, we have hired Chad’s Media to create a video ceremony that we can share with the community on May 22nd instead. Hopefully, we will be able to hold the graduation ceremony and provide you with the video. But, because we are unable to put the video ceremony together at the last minute, we have to begin our planning phase for that project. We will film our video ceremony on the stage of the secondary cafeteria. Please note the following directions for our video ceremony creation. 1. We have each of you scheduled to attend one filming session. We have scheduled you ten minutes in order for Chad’s Media to film your part. The two days that we are planning to film are May 9th and May 15th. We will post the schedule later this week that lets you know which day and time you are to be here. 2. Come ready. Time slots will be posted later this week. When it is your turn, though, you will only have approximately ten minutes to leave your car, film, take pictures, and return to your car….. So, you have to be ready to go when you get here. 3. Park your car in the Junior High parking area. 4. Stay in your car until you are notified that it is your turn. We will have a staff member come out to let you know that it is your turn. 5. Arrive about thirty minutes early in case we are running ahead of schedule. (We have about fifty students and their families to film, so we have to be ready and stay on schedule as much as possible.) 6. When the staff member tells you that it is your turn, please enter the secondary cafeteria by the side doors. 7. You are welcome to bring your immediate family with you, but please do not bring more than 10 family members. (They must enter together with you when you enter and return to their cars with you when you return to yours.) 8. When you exit, you will exit out of the other side of the cafeteria and through the elementary exit. (The next scheduled group will not be able to enter until you are back in your vehicles.) 9. We will provide you with a copy of the video when it is completed as well as an 8.5 x 10 photo. Como-Pickton will be paying for this, so there is no need to make any purchase. 10. Each family will have up to 10 minutes of stage time for family pictures and celebrations. Students with speaking parts will be allotted additional time for obvious reasons. 11. Seniors, if you cannot make your scheduled time slot, please notify Mr. Baird through email as soon as possible. BairdK@cpcisd.net (I know this is obvious, but I wanted to make sure everyone understands. If you are unable to be present to film your part of the video, you will not be in the video.) 12. We will post your time slots in the next couple of days, so stay tuned. If we are unable to hold a live graduation ceremony, we will reschedule as much as possible. Our latest date for rescheduling will be September 19th, the Saturday after our Homecoming game. It has been almost one and a half months since we’ve seen you! We look forward to seeing you again on one of those two days!

My Eagle Nation Family: It is with heavy heart that I notify you that Governor Abbott has ordered our schools closed for the remainder of the year. We knew that this might be a possibility, but it is still difficult for us to realize such an awful time in our state and nation. I know that many of you have questions regarding graduation and student scholarships / awards. I do not have any answers for you at this time, but I can tell you that we WILL have some type of senior recognition before the end of the school year. We WILL still announce scholarship winner recipients before the end of the school year. We WILL still announce student award recipients before the end of the school year. It may be an online activity or something that won't violate our social distancing guidelines, but we WILL do something. Your child's teachers will still continue their efforts in reaching out to your child to whatever extent is comfortable for you and your family. If they are contacting you too much, please just tell them. If they haven't contacted you enough, please let them know that too. As I mentioned before, our goal is to continue instruction as much as possible, but we do not want to make a stressful situation even worse. If all you do is tell your children that you love them and that education is important, you have done enough to satisfy me. I also assured you that we would not punish your child regarding grades during this unstable time as well. Whatever your child's school average was before we closed school, that will be their average for the remainder of the school year. We understand that being at home instead of at school is less than ideal for your child's educational growth. We will work all the harder next year to recover whatever areas they have fallen behind in. It isn't their fault, and we know it. Every child in the state of Texas is in the same situation. We will get through this together. We will also continue to feed our students who are in need during the rest of our school year. Last week, our staff and cafeteria workers delivered almost 2,000 meals to the students in our community. That's a lot of work, but we do it because we care. As always, I encourage you to reach out to me with any questions or concerns. My email address is gbower@cpcisd.net. We miss our students, and we love them. We hope everyone stays healthy during this crazy time. Your Proud Superintendent - Dr. Greg Bower
